Happy New Year! It has been quite sometime since I have had any interest in this particular holiday. I find the occassion to be cursed with a new form of drama each year. So to welcome 2016, instead of making big plans and buying a new party dress, I celebrated with a friend in the form of Chinese takeout and Prosecco in tea cups, whilst watching The Holiday, which I acutally hadn't seen since it was in theatres!
My friends and I have a New Year's day tradition of having dinner at The Old Spaghetti Factory, a really beautifully decorated Italian restaurant on Toronto's Esplanade. The interior is decorated with old musical instruments, stained glass and chandeliers. Patrons have the option of dining in a giant carousel in the centre, hollowed out with tables on top, as well as an old train and a phone booth.
Each meal begins with warm bread and garlic butter... The Factory must have an entire kitchen of bread ovens going each night. I decided on the clam chowder to start and lobster ravioli as my entrée, I recommend both. Each meal concludes with a mug of coffee and a bowl of spumoni ice cream...vanilla, chocolate and pistachio...so good! Though I'm not one for New Year's Eve, I do so love beginning each year at Spaghetti Factory with good company!
Wishing you a happy new year!
